Name and History

Developed by Frank S. Platt of New Haven, Connecticut and introduced in 1883 or 1885. Frank started with the variety Large White and refined it over the years, selecting for plants bearing 5-6 seeds per pod. It was picked up by seed companies of the time and marketed under a variety of names, including Platt's Improved and Platt King Lima.

Growth: Sturdy, productive vines 8-10+ feet tall.
Flowers:


Pods: Green, flat, and large; 4-7 inches long. 4-6 seeds per pod.
Seeds: Very large. Flat and white.

Uses and Opinions

Shell or dry. An American garden favorite for over 100 years. Big buttery seeds with great flavor.
