Scientific name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Also called: the majority of "types" of beans are all this species. Bush beans, half-runner beans, pole beans, filet beans, French beans, greasy beans, green beans, haricots verts, Romano beans, snap beans, string beans, black beans, borlotti beans, cannellini beans, cranberry beans, kidney beans, navy beans, pink beans, pinto beans, and many more.
Plant type: bush or vine
Native to: West Africa
Parts eaten: young leaves, young pods (cooked), young or mature seeds (cooked). Uncooked dry beans are toxic in an uncomfortable but not lethal way.
