Name and History

Brought to the US in 1929 from Sapporo, Japan, and grown in New Mexico for many years.

Uses

Edamame, dry, or tofu.

Description

Growth: 65-110 days to maturity; 85 on average. Small plant from 12-28 inches tall. Day-length neutral. Germinates well in cool weather.

Flowers:

Pods: 4-5 seeds per pod.

Seeds: Small. Yellow or yellow-green with a brown saddle around the hilum.
