I'm using the term "American Indian" instead of "Native American" because, as of a 1995 survey of indigenous Americans, that term was preferred by 49% of respondents, versus 35% for "Native American."  If that is out of date please let me know and I will update this category right away.

Varieties with a particularly strong association with one or more of the indigenous peoples of North America.

I'm using the term "American Indian" instead of "Native American" because, as of a 1995 survey of indigenous Americans, that term was preferred by 49% of respondents, versus 35% for "Native American." If that is out of date please let me know and I will update this category right away.
